The Employer Handbook takes on the world’s strangest job interview questions of 2015

The folks over at Glassdoor.com have compiled their Top Oddball Interview Questions for 2015. Except this year, there’s a twist. Glassdoor has grouped the questions by country: United States, United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany.

So, let’s put these question to the test. I’m going to take a random “oddball” question from each country, list my response, and predict whether I would have gotten the job:

USA

Who would win in a fight between Spiderman and Batman? (Stanford University)

“You’re an idiot. How could a Marvel superhero fight a DC comics superhero? I would’ve expected that question at a Cal interview, but…” [I don’t get the job]

United Kingdom

How would you sell a fridge to an eskimo? (Harrods)

“First, I’d kidnap the Eskimo’s wife. Then, I’d send a ransom note asking for the cost of the fridge in exchange for the release of the Eskimo’s wife, and the fridge. That’s still (air quotes) selling (air quotes), right? Hey! Why are you looking at me like that? And who are those two guys at the door? Is that a taser—-” [I don’t get the job]

Canada

If you could high five one person, living or not, who would it be? (Lululemon)

“It’s a tie. Either Don Cherry or Lord Stanley of Preston.” [I get the job]

France

Quelle est la chose la plus folle que vous ayez jamais faite? [What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?] (Red Bull)

“Kidnap an Eskimo’s wife and sell a fridge. It’s a funny story really….” [I don’t get the job. And now I’m banned from France.]

Germany

Nennen Sie mir 7 Dinge, die man mit diesem Stift machen kann? [Give me 7 things you can do with this pen?] (HitFox Group)

“I can get you seven David Hasselhoff autographs. He’s my dad, you know.” [Come on! What do you think?]

Have a nice weekend everyone!
